Studio Brief 1 - One Week Book - Part 2

These are our finish proofs for screen printing. there are two sheets as ome is need for both colours. We choose to use mustard yellow and a purple as these two colors jump off the page when used together.

yellow

purple

This is the color we used for mustard yellow, we mixed yellow with a bit of green to tone down the yellow. It did look just like a popular brand of mustard.
This is our final screen once it had been exposed on the UV light vacuum exposer box thing. Once the emulsion was dry of water that was used to wash out the uncured emulsion it was ready to be put in to use.
We printed the yellow first as we where told we should alway start with the lights color first whenever screen printing more then one colour, then left that to dry. Then we turned the screen around and using registration marks that we had put in the corners of each sheet, we lined up these so the colours match up properly. then printed the Purple.

Once we had printed and used the screen we then had to strip the screen of curd emulsion. To do this you sponge on some stencil stripper then wash it of using a high pressure jet wash, the high pressure jet wash makes sure the mesh is completely free of any old used emulsion.

Safety first as its so dangerous you could die so make sure you're well protected from DEATH.

This is the final screen printed book with the negatives by its side. I was happy with the final outcome to say it was the first time we have screenprinted. I now know the importance of taking care when creating the negative for the screen. as at that point any mistakes that are made will show up on the screen and the final prints will be ruined.
