Studio Brief 1 - One Week Book

We were set the task  to Leeds Central Library to find out factual info about the place, the list we were given was
  • Something overheard
  • Record of a conversation with someone
  • Pick something up and put it in your pocket
  • Take a photograph of something
  • Drawn architecture/ space
  • Drawn objects
  • Drawn people (if possible)

These are the dogs or as they are know the Heraldic Beasts thats are found on the stair cases. I found these very interesting as they are strange in there aperians. i spent a little time sketching and looking at they form.

This is the mosaic floor that can be also found on the stair cases at the library. I tried to quickly sketch this but i feel if i had taken a few coloured pencil with me i could of done this al ot quicker and not had to try add lots of little details.

One of the best looking corridors in the building, I feel it was one of the best looking as it had books lining all the wall space and really makes it feel like a grand library that it is.

These are a couple of photos i took of the architecture and little details i found around the library. Whilst looking around  the building it became apparent to me that there is a lot of symmetrical designed features all over the building.

When we arrived we decided that we would spent one hour looking around the building sketchin and taking photos then meet up for lunch in the cafe and discuss ideas we had for a book, and look at what we had all drawn.

Whilst this was going on some of the group had ordered a pot of herbal tea. This came in a silver teapot that we all found nice to draw and when it was opened it was decided that it look nasty like a stinking swamp.

These are some sketches i did whilst sat in the cafe waiting for others to arrive and whilst lunch was eaten.

First scamp drawn my page the book ideas.

We found information on the library at they blog that is run by the heritage group. we had to use the blog as on the day there was no one available to talk to us directly. Here is the link to said blog http://secretlibraryleeds.net/
